Tayra Facts | Costa Rica Wildlife Guide
The sleek, longhaired, chocolate-brown tayra—a 3-foot-long giant of the weasel family—can weigh up to 10 pounds. It normally eats rodents and, despite its size, can take down a small deer. While in Costa Rica, be sure to look up to the crowns of deciduous trees, where they can sometimes be seen stalking squirrels with a snakelike, fluid prowl.
