Know Before You Go
Haida Gwaii Adventure Details
Currency
In Canada, the national unit of currency is the Canadian dollar (CAD$), which is divided into 100 cents. Banknotes are printed in denominations of $5, $10, $20, $50 and $100 dollars, and coins come in denominations of 5, 10, 25 cents and $1 and $2 dollars.
Money Exchange
Money can be exchanged at the airport in Vancouver. The acceptance of U.S. dollars is widespread in Canada, but to ensure the best exchange rate, we recommend changing your money into Canadian dollars. We suggest that you exchange some money at your home bank before departure so that you have cash available to you upon arrival. If using U.S. dollars, any change will be given in Canadian dollars.
Time Zone
This trip takes place in the Pacific Time Zone, which is the same time zone as Los Angeles.
Electricity
Electrical Current
Electrical current in British Columbia is the same as it is in the U.S.–110 volts, 60 cycles.
Electrical Sockets
The outlet configurations are also the same as in the U.S. If you wish to use personal appliances, or recharge batteries, a power converter or outlet adapter will not be necessary. There are electrical outlets in all the cabins on the boat that work when the generator is running (usually in the morning and late afternoon). The generator will be turned off at night.
