Know Before You Go
Weather & Climate in Greenland
The summer weather in East Greenland is extremely unpredictable. The weather is a mixture of marine low-pressure systems mixed with the more stable high-pressure inland climate. Expect and prepare for temperatures ranging from 35° to 60° Fahrenheit, with chilly mornings and evenings. It can get windy, and the Tasiilaq area can even experience the ferocious katabatic Piteraq hurricanes (very rare, but possible).
As our camp is located just south of the Arctic Circle, the amount of light during the nighttime hours ranges widely depending on when you will be traveling. On July 15, the sun sets at 10:53 pm and rises again at 2:16 am. By September 15, the sun sets at 6:57 pm and rises at 5:51 am. Please keep in mind that at these northern latitudes, the light lingers in the sky well past the actual sunset time. Check out this page for the sunrise and sunset times for the dates of your trips.
