Chrys Olson
Chrys grew up in the heart of the Midwest—born in Kansas and raised in Nebraska—with three brothers and three sisters. One of her most vivid childhood memories is being told to “go outside and play!” Summers meant swimming, water skiing and family baseball games lasting until it was too dark to see the ball. Winters can be brutal in the Midwest, but being outside was preferable to having seven kids cooped up in the house. So, they bundled up and out they went to sled, make snowmen, blaze trails with their snow boots and create all sizes and shapes of snow angels. Travel to anywhere other than Grandma’s house was difficult with such a large family, but when Chrys was a teenager, she went on a youth group camping trip to Colorado and still gets emotional remembering her first glimpse of the Rocky Mountains. As much as she loves the beauty of the Nebraska Sandhills (which she thinks everyone should visit at least once), seeing those peaks every day has made her a Colorado girl through and through, since she relocated here in 1987. She currently lives north of Denver with her spoiled Miniature Schnauzer, Cooper.
Music has always been an important of part of Chrys’s life. She started singing with a country music band when she was 16, met her husband while working as a single artist in 1984, and they played dances for years as a duo. If she has her headphones on, you can bet there is some George Strait or good old classic country music playing. For Chrys, the perfect day is when travel, music and mountains come together and she gets to “go outside and play”!
