Wilfredo Huillca Gamarra
Wilfredo was born in Cusco, Peru. He grew up with a passion for nature and an unending curiosity. In the Peruvian countryside, he fell in love with his surroundings and soaked up information from his parents about local herbs and their uses in local Andean medicine and cuisine. His enthusiasm for sharing his country’s history, traditions and ancestral music, and educating others about conservation and ecology led him to earn a license in tourism and to pursue a career as a guide and tour leader.
Before joining Nat Hab, Wilfredo logged years as a tour guide in Peru, thereby bolstering his education and improving his understanding of his homeland. When he started with Nat Hab in 2005, all that experience and knowledge further enhanced his role as an Expedition Leader. Because Wilfredo enjoys working in the field so much, he approaches each group as if they are his first, bringing a new perspective and fresh energy to every day. Wilfredo strives to provide guests, whom he hopes will become long-lasting friends, with an exceptional adventure and a memorable exploration of his country.
Wilfredo lives in Cusco with his wife and three children. He is a music teacher, Andean instrument manufacturer and a musician. He enjoys playing music with his children and collecting ancient artifacts. His native language is Quechua, the Andean Inca language that was passed down by his parents.
What Our Guests Say
Wilfredo went above and beyond to be helpful and make sure everything in our adventure went smoothly! He was extremely knowledgeable about the areas we visited. He made our trip so much more enjoyable than we ever expected. He is a definite asset to your company.
In addition to providing the exceptional service that Nat Hab is known for, Wilfredo went above and beyond to help coordinate an additional pass for my sister to hike a trail with us even though she joined the trip late. He introduced us to cultural treats like foods from the local markets, a trip to the county fair and a chance to watch the World Cup soccer game along with the rest of the country. The personal touches made it a very special trip!
Wilfredo was wonderful. He was so knowledgeable about the history of Peru and the origins of Machu Picchu. Being with him was like going to Summer School and actually enjoying it. He was able to keep my kids interested and involved. He also taught my grandson to play the Peruvian flute. We really enjoyed his company. His enthusiasm was contagious.
