Stacie Herring
Stacie grew up on the Gulf Coast of Texas near Matagorda Bay. Her grandfather truly inspired her love for nature. As a child, she was fascinated by alligators, and he would pull out encyclopedias to show her how they hunted and stored their food. He would teach her about the arrowheads he found in their back pasture and point out the different personality traits of his many ranch dogs. Stacie read books in the big tree in the backyard while her grandfather did the same on the porch. Her Aunt Ruth always sent mementos from her world travels, which sparked her interest in faraway places from a young age.
Stacie earned a bachelor's degree in mass communication with a minor in Spanish from Texas State University, graduating summa cum laude. She worked in the service industry for many years before transitioning to sales. In 2020, she was selling semiconductors internationally when the pandemic hit. During the work-from-home period, she had time to reflect and realized she wanted to contribute to wildlife conservation and the health of the planet. She sought a job as an assistant kitchen manager and seasonal kelp harvester in Juneau, Alaska. After staying seven months, she fell in love with Alaska, realizing she had found her purpose. In 2023, Stacie took a position at Nat Hab's Alaska Bear Camp, and in 2024, she became an Alaska Expedition Leader.
Stacie has always loved travel and has lived in some amazing places. She worked as a social worker in the Peace Corps in Botswana for a short while before moving to Prague, Czech Republic, to get her teaching certification.
Stacie loves to be outside and spends a lot of time camping, backpacking and playing at the beach. She enjoys challenging herself and has set her sights on some of the most challenging hikes in the U.S., including the Grand Canyon, Rim to Rim to Rim. She has also developed a great interest in coral reef work and restoration and aims to be scuba-certified in 2024.
In 2024, Stacie moved from Austin, Texas, to Virginia Beach. She has a wonderful partner, Josh, two amazing little girls, Charlie and Ryann, and their dog, Rosie.
