Shawn Eggleston2018
That first encounter sparked a lifelong journey of understanding and protecting these incredible animals. Over the years, Shawn has built a deep connection with Alaska’s brown bears, guiding others into their world and helping them experience these giants with awe and respect. His dedication to bear conservation is reflected photography and writing. He is co-author of McNeil River Bear ID Book for Alaska Fish and Game. He believes that the life lessons he’s absorbed through decades of observing bears has made him a better human.
Beyond guiding, Shawn’s 20+ years as a city and wildland firefighter have given him a unique perspective on nature’s raw power. His photography tells stories of strength, serenity, and the urgent need for conservation.
When the bears sleep, Shawn finds adventure elsewhere—hammocking on his mountain property, traveling the world, or soaring through the skies in his glider.

What Our Guests Say
Shawn was superb. The knowledge he had of the area we explored, the history, the wildlife, the geology, the climate, the issues relating to conservation and most of all how to find the animals was superb. When any guest had a problem he was quick to come up with solutions. I can't say enough good things about him.
Shawn is very passionate and knowledgeable. He attended to our needs and offered great advice on photographic matters in the field and off.
Shawn and Colby were 10/10, which I do not give lightly! Both were very knowledgeable and able to impart that knowledge to the guests. Also, they are hilarious, which made the trip not only interesting, but FUN!
