Jorn Vangoidtsenhoven
Jorn Vangoidtsenhoven
Jorn was born in Belgium and, after earning a degree in computer science, moved to the United States in 2003, where he spent the next 15 years working as a computer engineer. During that time, he discovered his love of photography. Jorn became a certified professional photographer through the New York Institute of Photography in 2013, and, while continuing to work as a computer engineer, realized that wildlife photography was his true passion. In 2018, he retired from cubicle life in order to devote his waking (and working) hours to photography. Now, Jorn spends his winters with the cranes and snow geese at his home in New Mexico and summers traveling to wildlife destinations. He photographs and writes about all things wildlife, with an emphasis on conservation and sustainable tourism. Jorn loves animals and, most of all, keeping wildlife wild. After all, what good is a pretty picture if you're not helping the animal and its environment?
Jorn's photography and articles have been published in online and offline publications, including BBC Wildlife, CNN, the Times, ABC and others. He also writes and takes photos for PetaPixel and Destination:Wildlife. Jorn has written several books on photography and his travels, and he's been fortunate to have won several wildlife photography awards.
What's in My Camera Bag
Like most photography enthusiasts, I have way too much gear. I've been a Nikon shooter since the mid 2000s. While traveling, I try to carry a select amount of gear, even though I'd like to bring it all! On trips, I typically opt for two or three zoom lenses that cover a wide range of focal lengths.
