Fernando Romo Sirvent2006
Fernando’s passion for nature began in childhood. He began to adopt street dogs and kept fish tanks full of fish. He even had a pet tortoise. Seeing his passion, his parents encourage him to learn all he could about the natural world.
While a student in Puerto Vallarta, he saw a painted bunting while walking his three dogs in a corn field and has been an avid birder ever since. His first job after graduation was with a local Mexican nature tour company, and he joined Nat Hab in 2006.
He specializes in expeditions to the annual Monarch Butterfly migration in the Mexican highlands and in Patagonia. His talent for spotting and capturing images of the rarest birds have made him a sought-after Expedition Leader for birdwatchers, and he also excels at whale photography.
His enthusiasm garners rave reviews from all who travel with him. Whether guests are beginner photographers, novice eco-travelers, or have a lot of experience, Fernando ensures everyone’s comfort throughout the entire journey.
Fernando shares Nat Hab’s philosophy that travel can benefit local communities and inspire conservation by ascribing value to wild nature and crucial habitats. When he's not guiding, Fernando resides in beautiful Puerto Vallarta.

What Our Guests Say
Fernando was terrific. He went out of his way to make sure we were all comfortable, having a good time, seeing whales and understanding everything about the activity. He was a terrific conversationalist on the tour and at meals. He went out of his way to take us to a release of leatherback sea turtles into the ocean. We have nothing but the highest regard for him.
Fernando was fantastic! He was very professional and kind, extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the natural habitats we encountered. He never got tired of answering the same questions over and over again, and nobody felt left out. Communication was clear and concise, and it was hard to believe he has only spoken English for a short time. He was considerate of each traveler's needs and safety. He is a treasure. If I only had one word to describe Fernando it would be 'joyful'.
Fernando was the best Expedition Leader we have had. He joined the group and shared far more than information about the whale sharks and other environmental topics. Unlike other trips we have been on where the guide met us prior to the morning departure and disappeared upon return, the fact that Fernando joined us for meals and conversations added immeasurably to the experience.
