Birdlife | Madagascar Wildlife Guide
Madagascar has only about 283 bird species and is home to 37 endemic genera. Madagascar shares 20 species with either the Comoros or Seychelles. Many of these belong to genera confined to various western Indian Ocean islands, such as the vasa parrots, blue pigeons and the fodys. Happily, the species present on Madagascar are plentiful in contrast to their endangered cousins on the other islands.
