Elevation in Quito:
Quito is at an elevation of 9,300 feet. The relative lack of oxygen at this elevation may manifest in altitude-sickness symptoms that can include headaches, dizziness, tiredness and nausea during the first few hours or days spent at elevation. Hydration and rest usually help symptoms to resolve, though participants may wish to talk with their doctor about taking along a prescription medication to better manage potential physical reactions to high altitude.

Itinerary

Day 1: Quito, Ecuador

Upon arrival in Quito, transfer to the full-service Swissotel Quito in fashionable and convenient La Floresta. Additional nights are available on request, and this chic neighborhood is worth exploring.


Day 2: Quito

Tour the plazas, Baroque churches, and cobbled streets of Quito’s Centro?Histórico, a living neighborhood at the heart of the city where colonial legacy and thriving contemporary Andean culture is on full display. Quito’s 16th-century historic center—designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1978 alongside the Galápagos Islands—is the largest and best preserved in Latin America. Learn about the revitalization of the neighborhood at a tour of Mercado San Francisco. Enjoy a festive private lunch. Dinner and the evening at leisure.


Day 3: Quito

Transfer to the Airport this morning for your flight to Galápagos.
