Group Size
A very important feature of this Costa Rica adventure is the limited group size, since fewer travelers ensures a quieter, more intimate experience of nature, as well as a lighter footprint on the environment.
Take this trip on a private basis, traveling exclusively with your immediate family, multi-generational family or group of friends. Please note that on Make It Private departures we have a minimum group size of half the maximum size of our regularly scheduled departures.
Included
Trip price includes: Accommodations, services of Nat Hab's professional Expedition Leader(s), local guides and lodge staff, all meals from dinner on Day 1 through breakfast on final day, private boat tour in Golfo Dulce, private transfers throughout the itinerary, some gratuities, airport transfers on Day 1 and final day, all activities and entrance fees, all taxes, permits and service fees.
Internal air cost includes: Two private charter flights. One from San Jose to Golfito and the second from Golfito to San Isidro (this will be listed separately on our invoicing).
Not Included
Travel to and from the start and end point of your trip, alcoholic beverages, some gratuities, passport and visa fees (if any), optional activities, items of a personal nature (phone calls, laundry and internet, etc.), airline baggage fees, airport and departure taxes (if any), required medical evacuation insurance, optional travel protection insurance.
Physical Requirements
Moderate
This trip does not require a high degree of physical fitness, however, in order to participate, travelers should be able to walk 2-3 miles unassisted over uneven terrain with potentially muddy, slippery surfaces, up inclines involving some altitude gain, and at altitudes of up to 10,000 feet above sea level. We will be traveling by boat in the Golfo Dulce. In order to participate in this excursion, travelers will need to be able to enter and exit the boat in potentially unstable conditions. Travelers should be aware that the heat and humidity may be very high in Tiskita and temperatures may be quite cold in the Talamanca Mountains, especially at night, and conditions are often damp. Roads throughout the trip are often bumpy and sometimes winding. Travelers prone to motion sickness may wish to take precautions, both on drives and on the small plane flights to/from Golfo Dulce.
On custom or private departures with smaller groups, our ability to accommodate varying levels of physical abilities or interests is limited, since these trips are staffed with a single Expedition Leader who may be assisted, pending availability, by local guides.
Important Information About This Trip
This carefully designed Costa Rica nature expedition offers a small group of travelers an intimate journey into three distinct ecosystems—lowland rainforest, mountain cloud forest and tropical beaches—for a diverse sampler of Costa Rica's natural habitats. Varied activities and visits with local people offer a deep and unique view into this legendary ecotourism destination. Please be aware that some fairly long drives along poorly maintained roads are often an unavoidable part of the itinerary, with our focus on less-visited locales.
Mandatory Insurance
Since the areas we travel to on this trip are remote and wild (that's why we go there!), we require medical evacuation insurance for our guests' safety. If you decline the medical evacuation insurance coverage offered by Natural Habitat, we request that you send us documentation of the independent coverage you have selected. We will add the cost of a medical evacuation policy to your tour invoice until you provide our office with proof of coverage including your insurance company's name, contact number and your individual policy number. Thank you for understanding that our policy exists exclusively in the interest of our guests' safety.
Also, to ensure quality medical care in the event of a medical emergency, as well as peace of mind from the time you book your trip to the time you return home, we highly recommend purchasing comprehensive travel insurance. Plans may cover everything from medical treatment and trip cancellations and delays, to lost luggage. We offer both medical evacuation and comprehensive travel policies through Travelex. Please contact our office if you would like more information about either of these plans.
