Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
Dar es Salaam, meaning "haven of peace" in Arabic, is Tanzania’s commercial capital and East Africa’s most important port. Dar reflects a succession of Arab, German, British and Indian influences coloring its native African heritage. Travelers will enjoy its scenic harbor, sandy beaches, historic buildings and lively Kariakoo Market.

Selous Game Reserve, Tanzania
Four times the size of the Serengeti, little-known Selous is Africa’s largest expanse of uninhabited land. On this immense coastal plateau, a third of Africa’s wild dogs den alongside huge herds of elephants and some of the last black rhinos in the region, while birds animate the hippo- and croc-filled marshes of the Rufiji Delta.

Ruaha National Park, Tanzania
The great Ruaha River coursing through this remote region supports vast concentrations of buffalo, gazelle, kudu, roan and sable antelope, thousands of elephant, plus plentiful hippo and crocodile. On game drives through this little-explored landscape, predators on view may include lion, leopard, cheetah and African wild dog.

Katavi National Park, Tanzania
Isolated in far southwest Tanzania, this little-visited wilderness showcases abundant wildlife. During the dry season, staggering numbers of animals converge on the shrunken Katuma River, with thousands of elephant, buffalo, giraffe, zebra and impala providing easy pickings for lion, hyena and lurking crocodile.
