Itinerary
Day 1: Johannesburg, South Africa
Cosmopolitan Johannesburg is the jumping-off point for most South Africa safaris. The city of 3.6 million is a vibrant mélange of colors and cultures. Food and music are central to life in "Joburg," and its clubs and pubs are an integral part of the social fabric.
Days 2–4: Madikwe Game Reserve
Fly north today to Madikwe Game Reserve. Bordering Botswana, Madikwe is a prime safari destination and among the largest wildlife reserves in Southern Africa. Lying within the transition zone between the Lowveld and the Kalahari thornveld, it is ideally situated to attract an astonishing diversity of large and small game. The reserve, which is one of the best places to see the Big Five and elusive African wild dog, is home to 66 mammal species and more than 300 resident and migrant bird species. As a malaria-free zone, it is an especially appealing destination for families.
Days 5–7: Private Reserve, Greater Kruger Park
World-renowned Kruger National Park is a flagship destination for safari-goers, thanks to its dense wildlife populations. Checking off the big cats, major mammals and a host of bird species is a given in this diverse ecosystem. Your custom safari allows you to choose from a number of private game reserves that dot the greater park area, providing exclusive access to the natural wonders here without competing with the crowds that dominate the national park proper. Private game reserves such as Sabi Sand, Timbavati and Manyeleti also allow a variety of experiences and activities that are not permitted in the national park itself, from wildlife drives in open vehicles to intimate guided safari walks. Kruger offers one of Africa’s ultimate wildlife experiences, and no trip to South Africa is complete without a visit here.
Day 8: Johannesburg / Depart
Fly to Johannesburg today, where you’ll bid farewell to South Africa as you board your homeward flight.
