The Nature Advisor Webinars
The Wolves of Katmai National Park
Although Katmai National Park is best known for being THE place to see brown bears in the wild, the park is home to another intriguing resident that has become more visible in recent years – the gray wolf. Brad Josephs takes us into one of the few remaining places on Earth where these two apex predators – the brown bear and the gray wolf – coexist. How have wolves learned from bears to thrive in this ecosystem that is subject to seasonal fluctuations in food availability with the salmon migration? Why is the wolf population currently increasing? Which of these two prominent species is dominant? This webinar will cover the fascinating dynamic between these two species, and much more of interest in the Katmai wilds.
Inside Look at East Africa's Great Migration
The annual Great Migration circuit around the Serengeti–Maasai Mara grasslands of Tanzania and Kenya is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. With 1.5 million wildebeest, 200,000 zebra and almost 500,000 Thomson’s gazelle traveling nearly 1,000 miles round-trip, there is no other movement of land mammals on Earth that compares in numbers and distance. Take part in the migration through this webinar with Expedition Leader Pietro Luraschi who has lived, worked and trained guides at safari camps throughout East and Southern Africa.
From Bering to Baja: The Great Gray Whale Migration
Whale naturalist guide Sophie Merino takes us on a journey into Mexico’s warm Pacific lagoons where these curious cetaceans spend the winter, breeding and birthday their young. Mothers often seem to enjoy "showing off" their babies to our guests on whale-watching excursions, pushing them toward our boats. There are very few places on the planet that allow whale encounters as intimate as those we enjoy in San Ignacio Lagoon and Magdalena Bay. In this webinar, you will learn about the unique behaviors that make Baja’s gray whales such a favorite of our guests, and how climate change is impacting their food supply.
Grizzly-Land: Alaska's Katmai Coast
Presented by bear expert Brad Josephs, who has been an Expedition Leader with Nat Hab since 2005. There's no better place to see the largest brown bears in the world than the Katmai Coast, and Brad has spent years bringing guests into close encounters with these powerful denizens of the Alaska wilderness. Learn about the behavior and biology of these bears, and how an understanding of their communication signals allows our Expedition Leaders to take Nat Hab groups safely into their world.
