Toky was born and raised in Antananarivo, the capital city of Madagascar. Throughout his childhood, he frequently accompanied his father to their family's ancestral rice paddies. Young Toky delighted in exploring and finding animals in the verdant marsh—this produced a lifelong love for the natural world.
Upon completing his high school education at a government-run Lycée in Antananarivo, Toky embarked on a two-year program in tourism at a private academic institute. During a course at Ranomafana National Park in 2001, he resolved to delve further into the realm of ecotourism. A naturalist guide since 2004, Toky has accrued a wealth of knowledge on Madagascar's wildlife, particularly within its parks and reserves. From the eastern rainforests to the arid southwestern spiny forests, Toky's love for his homeland shines brightest in these biodiversity-rich regions. Notable experiences include hearing the indri's call in the rain forest and observing visitors' reactions upon seeing the "dancing sifaka lemurs." Toky holds a particular fondness for his native chameleons, elusive terrestrial tenrecs and the diverse lemurs unique to Madagascar. In 2016, Toky took on the role of an assistant guide for Nat Hab’s Madagascar trips. This culminated in a position as a naturalist Expedition Leader starting in 2023.
Toky is a fan of DIY, often using recycled materials to fix equipment at home. He loves spending quality time with his wife, Vony, and their two children. Their son, Ilaina, dreams of becoming a detective, while their daughter, Itokiana, aspires to be a doctor. Toky, while nurturing these dreams, continues to inspire through his own journey—a love letter to the magnificent beauty and biodiversity of Madagascar.
Together, Natural Habitat Adventures and World Wildlife Fund have teamed up to arrange nearly 100 nature travel experiences around the planet, while helping to protect the magnificent places we visit and their wild inhabitants.
