Born in Winnipeg, Madeline (Maddy) grew up immersed in nature, embarking on family camping and paddling excursions through Canada’s vast wilderness. These experiences ignited her love for nature, prompting Maddy to earn a bachelor's degree in environmental science from the University of Manitoba and a master’s degree in environmental studies from the University of Waterloo. Her research delves into the symbiotic relationship between humanity and nature, focusing on the social aspects of sustainability.
Maddy has donned many hats as a travel counselor for the province of Manitoba, a backcountry canoe guide, a hydroponic gardener in Churchill, a native plant and prairie restoration expert in Winnipeg, and presently, a Churchill Polar Bear Expedition Leader beginning in 2023. She cherishes the daily joys of nature, stopping to smell the roses, pick local berries and identify new flora.
Beyond her passion for nature, Maddy has received numerous accolades, including a spot on the Top 100 Most Fascinating Manitobans list, induction into the Manitoba Order of the Buffalo Hunt, and a City of Winnipeg Outstanding Achievement Award. Notably, she was the first woman to represent Canada at the Canoe Marathon World Championships, securing a commendable sixth place globally.
Whether in a canoe, on a bike or strapped to a pair of skis, Maddy can almost always be found exploring the great outdoors.
Together, Natural Habitat Adventures and World Wildlife Fund have teamed up to arrange nearly 100 nature travel experiences around the planet, while helping to protect the magnificent places we visit and their wild inhabitants.
