A few weeks ago, the Charles Darwin Foundation (CDF) announced that it was facing a year-end budgetary crisis and that it need to raise $1 million to avoid the possibility of having to close its doors for good.
Since then, there has been an outpouring of international support and things are looking up. Still, emergency funding is badly needed for the CDF to get on firm financial footing before the end of the year. That’s why the International Galapagos Tour Operators Association (IGTOA) recently announced a “Triple Your Impact” fundraising drive on behalf of the CDF. IGTOA and an anonymous donor will double match any donations received on this page in the month of December, up to $25,000. Or, to put it another way, for every $1 they receive they will donate an additional $2 to the CDF. Their goal is to raise $25,000 from the public and donate a total of $75,000 to the CDF by the year’s end.
Donate Now and Triple Your Impact!
The crisis began in July when municipal authorities in the Galapagos shut down the CDF’s newly expanded gift shop, depriving the organization of critical operating revenue. Negotiations are underway to reopen the gift shop and several hundred thousands of dollars have been raised to help the CDF in the meantime. Still, this is a great opportunity to support science and conservation in the Galapagos by tripling the amount of your donation between now and the end of the month.
The CDF has played a huge role in Galapagos conservation for over 50 years. Its many accomplishments include rescuing the Española giant tortoise and other endemic species from the brink of extinction, helping to establish the Galapagos marine reserve, and spearheading some of the most successful and ambitious invasive species and biological control initiatives in the world.
