This dramatic image of a male lion leaping from a tree with a dismembered impala clutched in his jaws was taken last month at Sabi Sabi Private Game Reserve by safari guide Pravir Patel. He and his guests were admiring the site of the leopard that made the kill perched high in the branches of the stately jackalberry tree when the lion came along, bounded up the tree’s trunk, and claimed the carcass for himself. You can see more of Patel’s images and read about the exciting encounter on Sabi Sabi’s blog.
