Roberto Plaza, who is Natural Habitat Adventures’ Galapagos Field Manager, shot this photo of a massive wave bearing down on the coastline of Santa Cruz last weekend. The Galapagos National Park reported that a storm south of the archipelago caused the strong waves, which caused considerable damage to townships on San Cristóbal and Isabela Islands. Park staff have been monitoring wildlife, Galapagos sea lions and marine iguanas in particular, in the affected areas and collecting trash brought in by the high tide. Authorities briefly suspended maritime activities near the affected islands and closed some public beaches as a precaution.
