Lavanya Sunkara is a writer, animal lover and responsible traveler based in New York City. Her love of nature and adventure has taken her all over the globe, from Alaska to Zanzibar. She’s traveled within six continents, lived in three time zones, speaks two languages and is fervent about living a life of purpose. When she is authoring impactful stories about conservation, community upliftment or women’s empowerment, Lavanya appreciates the opportunity to make a difference with her words. Her work has appeared in the New York Times, National Geographic, Travel + Leisure, USA Today, Fodor’s, Forbes, Architectural Digest and Business insider, among many others in a career spanning more than a decade.
Some of her most memorable travel experiences include snorkeling with sea lions in the Galápagos, swimming with whale sharks in Mexico, studying dolphins in Costa Rica, camping in Tanzania’s Serengeti and caring for orphaned wallabies and kangaroos in Australia.
When she’s not traveling, she’s home in the suburbs of Long Island with her husband and two adorable rescue pups. Follow her adventures on Instagram @nature__traveler.
