A small ray of hope has given Asia’s dwindling tiger population a chance at recovering their numbers. A 13 country coalition has pledged to double the current paltry number of tigers in the wild (estimate at 3,200) in the next decade. You can read more about it here.
As human civilization encroaches on the few remaining natural habitats of wild tigers, the plight of this alpha predator is becoming more and more dire. Conservation efforts from companies such as WWF and Natural Habitat Adventures (such as our Wild India trip) help but the key to tigers prolonged survival needs to come from the native stewards.
Here’s to hope for wild tigers. If this pact is sincere, it is a step in the right direction to prevent poaching, protect critical habitat and give one of nature’s most incredible species the chance to thrive for years to come.
