Ultimate Gorilla Photo Expedition

A Primate Extravaganza! Photograph Gorillas in Uganda & Rwanda, Plus Chimpanzees & Golden Monkeys
For the avid wildlife photographer, few shots are more prized than a portrait of a mountain gorilla. The depths of its liquid brown eyes hold a mystique that words can't capture. From the hulking silverback as he sits and surveys his troop to agile youngsters rollicking in the branches, a gorilla family offers endless wonder and delight for photographers. And our primate photo safari is matchless in helping you get the images that capture that emotion. Four separate gorilla treks offer multiple opportunities to spend time with these creatures so like us, as you document a range of behavior, antics and contemplative moments. We also photograph chimpanzees in Uganda's Kibale Forest and golden monkeys in Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda, rounding out your primate portfolio—plus classic African wildlife and the Victoria Nile in Murchison Falls National Park.

Why is This the Ultimate Primate Photo Safari?

Few moments with wildlife are as riveting as those we experience on our Ultimate Gorilla Safari. And no safari we know of is designed as meticulously to offer you the best chance to get captivating photographs of those moments. Take a look at all we've included to ensure the ultimate photography encounters with gorillas, chimpanzees and other African wildlife:

  1. You Won't Find a More In-Depth Primate Itinerary
Many gorilla safaris give you just one day in the rainforest to track these reclusive animals. But we include four separate gorilla tracking expeditions—two days each in Uganda and Rwanda—to maximize your opportunities for incredible photos. Add wild chimpanzee tracking in Kibale and Budongo forests, plus a chance to see golden and colobus monkeys (and others), and you've got the most comprehensive primate safari Africa has to offer.
  2. Photograph a Full Range of African Wildlife
While primates are our focus, we include other wildlife viewing as well, including a chance to spot the Big Five. Look for elephant, buffalo, zebra, giraffe, lion, leopard, crocodile, hippo, and even rhinos on our visit to a rhinoceros sanctuary. Our diverse itinerary features the best of both: primates plus general wildlife viewing on forest treks, 4x4 drives over the savanna, and private boat cruises.
  3. In-Depth Exploration of Murchison Falls National Park
Capture the Victoria Nile plunging over a sheer cliff at Murchison Falls, and make multiple safaris in the park to photograph abundant wildlife, including some of the best birdlife in Africa. What's more, our private bush camp offers immediate proximity to the park—we get there well before groups from the outlying lodges, where most other visitors stay.
  4. Two Private Boat Safaris
Cruise the Victoria Nile and Lake Albert Delta by private boat, photographing abundant wildlife on the banks and in the water, and get exciting shots at the base of Murchison Falls where it creates a turbulent boil in the Devil's Cauldron.
  5. A Window Seat for Every Photographer
Get the best possible photos with a guaranteed window seat for every traveler on board the highest-quality safari trucks. Our state-of-the-art vehicles have features such as multiple roof hatches to enhance viewing. There's no way around it—East Africa's mountainous regions have some pretty rough roads—so full 4-wheel-drive capacity with a top-quality suspension system is a key feature of our vehicles.
  6. Unique Accommodations Offer Ambience & Seclusion
Where you stay on safari makes a big difference to your overall experience. That's our focus is small, intimate camps and lodges in nature. We choose our locations for their scenic settings and proximity to wildlife—in contrast to large lodges in busier areas where hundreds of tourists congregate.
  7. No Tight Weight Limits—Bring the Equipment You Need!
Uganda and Rwanda are among the most beautiful countries in Africa. Our itinerary includes scenic drives between safari locations, offering a chance to photograph the countryside and scenes of rural life. And, crucially important, driving allows you to take more photography equipment, avoiding restrictions on small planes with tight weight limits. Because we do a point-to-point trip from Entebbe to Kigali, we don't do any backtracking, unlike many gorilla itineraries—which means more diversity en route.
  8. Our Nat Hab Expedition Leader is By Your Side Throughout Your Safari
Your trip is led by an Expedition Leader who is both an outstanding wildlife photographer and professional naturalist guide. No matter your ability level, you'll get all the tips and coaching you need to take your images to the next level, from shot composition to handling low light in the rainforest to follow-up editing. Our guides are also privy to resources from WWF's top scientists, enhancing their knowledge even further. Check out our Expedition Leader bios and traveler comments.
  9. Our Quality-Value Guarantee Ensures an Outstanding Photo Expedition
With Natural Habitat Adventures, you receive our exclusive guarantee, which clearly states that we will meet the lofty expectations we set in our promotional materials. To our knowledge, this is the most ambitious guarantee made by any adventure travel company. Read our important promise for yourself!
  10. Feel Good About Your Carbon-Neutral Journey
We care deeply about our planet, as we know you do. When you travel with us, the carbon emissions from your trip are 100% offset—including your round-trip flights from home. Natural Habitat Adventures has been the world’s first carbon-neutral travel company since 2007.
