Kenya Rhino Conservation Safari

©
Be Part of an Inspiring Ecotourism Effort Dedicated to Bringing Rhinos Back
With their sharp, swooping horns, large nostrils, whimsical ears and wrinkled, armor-like hides, Africa’s rhinos look both ferocious and charming. The world's largest land mammal after elephants, rhinos can weigh more than two tons. They are among the oldest mammals on Earth, roaming the continent for millions of years. Yet this mighty, enduring beast is threatened with extinction as poaching has decimated its numbers. But hope glimmers, as concerted conservation efforts are helping rhinos step back from the brink. The amazing rhinoceros is the highlight of this special safari, though you’ll also meet plenty of other famous African wildlife, too. Enjoy exclusive, behind-the-scenes talks with conservationists on the front lines in three leading private conservancies, hear about struggles and successes with rhino restoration, and relish encounters with other rare Kenyan animals on game drives and guided walks from our secluded private camps.

What Makes This Singular Safari So Special?

This is the ultimate East African rhino-focused experience, including visits to renowned rhino conservation projects at the Ol Pejeta and Lewa conservancies, rhino talks by experts each day, up close and personal encounters with the last two living northern white rhinos...and much more! Read on:

  1. Rhinos...and So Much More
On this unique itinerary, you'll enjoy encounters with both white and black rhinoceros in a variety of locations. And in addition to our rhino focus, you'll experience many other wildlife highlights of a classic Kenya safari: Scout for the Big Five on three different reserves including the famed Maasai Mara, also noted for its abundant lion population—and look for uniquely adapted northern species such as Grevy's zebra, plus two species of giraffe: reticulated and Maasai.
  2. Private Tour of Sheldrick Elephant & Rhino Orphanage
Enjoy an exclusive behind-the-scenes visit to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Nairobi, acclaimed for its work in rescuing and rehabilitating orphaned and injured pachyderms. Learn about and meet some of the famous babies during this inspiring experience, and talk with their devoted keepers.
  3. Private Mobile Camps on the Ol Pejeta and Maasai Mara Conservancies
With our focus on private reserves, there are far fewer people to contend with…and with private occupancy camps, your sense of seclusion is further enhanced. With these small safari camps set aside for Nat Hab guests alone, you'll have a much more palpable sense of wild Africa, when it's just us and the animals.
  4. Exclusive Activities on Private Reserves
On safari in private conservancies, as opposed to tightly managed government parks, we can participate in special activities not permitted elsewhere: guided bush walks, off-road exploration, and night drives in search of nocturnal wildlife. Guests who visit only public reserves don't have access to these opportunities.
  5. Internal Flights Maximize Your Time on Safari
With four chartered flights from point to point, we avoid long, rugged, dusty drives -- giving you more time in the bush for wildlife viewing…which is what you came for!
  6. Extra Luggage Allowance—Optimal for Photographers
We have arranged for additional weight allowance on our flights—a very special feature—ensuring you can take all your camera gear to capture the photos you covet. Most safari flights in East Africa strictly limit luggage to 33 pounds per guest, including carry-on bags, on even the highest-priced trips. Our luggage allowance of 44 pounds per guest makes it easier to travel comfortably.
  7. Open Safari Trucks with a “Window” Seat for All
Experience exciting game drives in our top-quality 4x4 safari vehicles, never packed to capacity, with an open side view for every traveler – ensuring plenty of comfort and easy access to photography.
  8. Shoulder Season Travel Avoids Crowds
Our visit is timed for a less-crowded experience in popular Kenya, with exclusive access to fantastic wildlife viewing away from throngs of other safari-goers.
  9. The World's Finest Safari Guides
Natural Habitat Adventures is known worldwide for employing the finest naturalists on the planet. In Kenya, rather than using local camp guides at each stop, you'll travel from start to finish with our own Safari Expedition Leaders—the most highly trained guides in Africa—dedicated to providing exceptional service. Our photo safaris are led by guides who are also photography pros, adept at coaching photographers of all skill levels. Our Expedition Leaders average more than 15 years' experience each. Their training is further enhanced with materials from WWF scientists. See Expedition Leader bios and traveler comments regarding the quality of our leaders.
  10. Our Quality-Value Guarantee Ensures Your Superior Safari Experience
Natural Habitat Adventures offers an exclusive guarantee, which clearly states that we will meet the lofty expectations we set forth in our promotional materials. To our knowledge, this is the most ambitious guarantee made by any adventure travel company. Read our important promise.
  11. Feel Good About Your Carbon-Neutral Journey
We care deeply about our planet, as we know you do. When you travel with us, the carbon emissions from your trip are 100% offset—including your round-trip flights from home. Natural Habitat Adventures has been the world's first carbon-neutral travel company since 2007.
  12. Natural Habitat Adventures is WWF's Travel Partner
Because of our commitment to environmentally friendly travel, as well as the exceptional quality of our adventures, World Wildlife Fund—the world's leading environmental conservation organization—has named Natural Habitat Adventures as its worldwide travel partner, a designation that makes us exceedingly proud!
