Waghoba Ecolodge
Location
Tadoba National Park, India
Set within a 12-acre enclave inside the buffer zone between Tadoba National Park and the private outskirts beyond, this ecolodge combines conscious luxury with eco-friendly practices to create a comfortable and sustainable refuge for safari travelers. Individual guest cottages are built with handmade adobe bricks, local stone and Guna vault roof—a traditional curved architectural design offering strong insulation and durability, for a natural, sustainable cooling system. Cottage interiors have hand-crafted teak furniture, a writing desk, beds with 100% organic cotton linens, large windows that allow ample natural light, and outdoor decks. En suite bathrooms have a shower, hair dryer and organic toiletries.
Common areas include a nature library and lounge area filled with natural light that filters through the large windows looking out onto the forested hills. Unwind with a selection of wildlife books and board games, and learn from daily presentations by expert naturalists. The lodge has a covered outdoor swimming pool for a shaded and refreshing respite between wildlife drives. The pool area features a stone deck, teak chaise lounges and a bar. Enjoy locally sourced, organic Indian dishes blending traditional and contemporary flavors. Multi-course meals are mostly served thali-style on a single platter, for a communal dining experience designed to provide a variety of flavors and textures. An assortment of small dishes typically includes curries, rice, dal (lentils), vegetables, chutneys and flatbreads. While the local cuisine is known for its piquant spices, the kitchen readily adapts the heat level based on guest preferences. Choose from mild to famously spicy curries. Homemade ice cream is a special treat.
The lodge also has a lake hide overlooking a serene watering hole that attracts a wide range of birds, sambar deer, wild boar and more. The perches are carefully designed to accommodate birds with different morphologies, weights, and behaviors. With comfortable sofa and chair seating, a coffee station and specially designed windows, hide guests can observe and photograph wildlife in comfort at eye level.
