Tswalu Kalahari
Location
Southern Kalahari, South Africa
Tswalu Kalahari sits within the largest private game reserve in South Africa, awarding its characterization of unrivaled exclusivity, and its unique menagerie of wildlife not commonly seen anywhere else. This luxurious nature retreat boasts unparalleled flexibility, as experiences are catered entirely to each guest.
The main house, which rests at the foot of the Korannaberg Mountains, is comprised of local stone, red clay, and Kalahari thatch, evoking the influences of nature and local culture. Inside is a lounge, dining area, mezzanine library, a museum of local artifacts, wine cellar, spa, and gym. Across from the shimmering, heated swimming pool are six suites and three family suites, each accommodating up to four guests. The suites consist of a generously sized bedroom and bathroom with indoor and outdoor showers, and a separate dressing and study area. Guests are also delighted to have an open fireplace and a private sun deck that overlooks the nearby watering hole. And for those desiring a few modern comforts, wireless Internet and satellite television are additional treats. Accompanying this impressive site is Tswalu’s five-bedroom lodge that sleeps up to 10 guests.
During your stay ask about the stunning Malori sleepout deck-a secluded sanctuary in the middle of the quiet desert, or take a horseback ride through the reserve! This allows an alternate perspective and way to get up close and personal with rare antelope, elusive meercats, mountain zebra, and other plains wildlife. You also have the distinct honor of viewing the resident black-maned Kalahari lions, cheetah, and desert black and white rhino.
