Toka Leya
Location
Livingstone, Zambia
Located on the banks of the Zambezi River within Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, Toka Leya Camp lies about eight miles northwest of Victoria Falls. Elevated walkways wind through the property, linking the tented suites to a central open-air hub with a dining area and lounge overlooking the water. The east side of camp is shaded beneath a dense canopy of trees, while the west side opens into sunlight beside an ancient baobab.
Guest suites blend natural materials with contemporary comfort, featuring earthy interiors that echo the surrounding landscape. Each features a king-size bed and sliding glass doors that open onto private verandas with views of the river’s braided channels. En suite bathrooms include double vanities and large showers, with some offering both indoor and outdoor options. Individual climate control ensures comfort in every season, while the raised structures minimize impact on the terrain.
At the heart of camp, the lounge and dining area sit beneath canvas on a broad wooden platform with sweeping views of the Zambezi. Guests can relax on comfortable sofas or by the bar, and a wood-fired pizza oven adds a warm, communal touch to mealtimes. A swimming pool and wide sun terrace overlook the river, offering a peaceful vantage point for watching wildlife along the banks.
Sustainability is central to Toka Leya’s design and operation. Elevated construction protects the riverside habitat, and the camp runs on solar power with systems for water recycling and waste management. A tree nursery and compost wormery support woodland restoration and regenerative practices. Locally made furnishings and materials further reduce environmental impact and reflect regional craftsmanship.
