The Sands Hotel, overlooking Burray Harbor, Watersound Bay and South Ronaldsay Island, enjoys a 4-star rating from the Scottish Tourist Board. Situated along Scapa Flow in Burray Village, the atmospheric stone hotel was originally built as a fish store in 1860. It has recently been refurbished and upgraded to provide all contemporary comforts without compromising its historic ambience. Six spacious guest rooms have excellent views over the beach and pier from which local fishermen come and go. Accommodations consist of two double rooms, two twin rooms and two family suites. All rooms have en suite bathrooms, tea- and coffee-making facilities, TV, phone, radio alarm and access to wireless Internet. Waterstone Restaurant on the premises features local Orkney produce and seafood, including salmon, scallops, crab, lobster and other local fish. Orkney beef is also well known for its high quality. The restaurant serves a la carte lunches, dinners and bar meals and is popular with locals. Accommodations are on a bed-and-breakfast basis.
