In Tasiilaq, the administrative center of East Greenland, we stay at The Red House, a simple hotel located on a hill south of town with a fantastic view of King Oscar Fjord and the surrounding mountains and glaciers. The small hostelry is geared toward outdoor enthusiasts and functions as a community gathering place for guests and locals alike: hikers drop by to get information about activities, trails and weather; local Greenlandic neighbors stop to chat and play cards. The Red House offers double rooms that are functional and comfortable. The hotel has central heating, hot and cold running water (a small luxury in Greenland), a sauna, and two lounges with a small library. On chilly evenings guests gather round the fireplace and shares adventures from the day.
