Location
Kinabatangan Wildlife Sanctuary, Sabah, Borneo
Sustainably built on the banks of the Kinabatangan River, Sukau Rainforest Lodge is the ideal springboard for our adventures in the region. Our jungle retreat offers unparalleled access to Kinabatangan Wildlife Sanctuary, home to one of the highest wildlife concentrations in Southeast Asia. Electric boat tours and a network of covered boardwalks facilitate intimate encounters with a diversity of species. Sukau’s wild residents include the proboscis monkey, orangutan, macaque, gibbon, langur monkey, all eight hornbill species, buffy fish owl, and the pygmy elephant. Guests may also see the rare Storm’s stork, Oriental darter, Bornean ground cuckoo, saltwater crocodiles and otters.
Accommodations are in newly refurbished and air-conditioned Borneo Villas, with abundant natural light and a private deck for your secluded sojourn in nature. Villas have warm hardwood floors, high ceilings with exposed beams, comfortable beds with cool linens, and a writing desk. Contemporary design elements carry into the en suite bathroom, which has a large walk-in hot and cold shower, hair dryer and toiletries. Other amenities include a tea/coffee machine, mini bar and safe. Keep an eye out for villa #9, named for Sir David Attenborough who was a guest at the lodge. The Gomantong Hall mini library and the Ape Gallery, where nightly educational talks are hosted, enrich the guest experience. Cool off in the swimming pool or relax on a lounge chair under an umbrella. Grab a refreshing drink at the Gecko Bar and dine at Melapi Restaurant, with panoramic river views. Free Wi-Fi is available in the Gecko Lounge, Gomantong Hall, Melapi Restaurant and Villa rooms. Refill your reusable bottles at the water dispenser whenever you’d like. Sukau has a positive presence both environmentally and socially, from its use of solar-powered energy and recycled water to employing and empowering local community members.
