Few safari camps offer the ambience of Sand Rivers Selous, where you'll feel utterly at one with the wilderness. Eight stone and thatch cottages are designed for maximum comfort while keeping an intimate connection with the African bush that inspired the camp's creation. Each open-fronted room is built on a raised deck with panoramic views over the river. The only noises you'll hear are those made by wildlife, and particular care has been taken to make the most of the natural light and cooling breezes that float in off the water. Airy riverside rooms have abundant space, natural materials, wonderful beds, en suite bathrooms, hot and cold running water, flush toilets and powerful showers. The main dining and bar area is open-fronted and cool, though guests can choose to dine in any number of spots: around the main pool, on their own private veranda, tucked away in a secluded corner, or at the social managers table, enjoying convivial rapport with other guests. The library offers a peaceful retreat for relaxing, as does the inviting pool, where you're surrounded by darting bee eaters and kingfishers as you listen to the grunts of hippos on the river.
