Note: This hotel will be used on our 2021 itinerary.
After a full renovation in 2012, the Sagafjord Hotel combines history, tradition and rustic charm with up-to-date comfort and amenities in one of coastal Norway's most prized settings. Located quayside on peaceful Hjorundfjord, the hotel features 200-year-old timber walls that were once part of an old school building, white-painted mullioned windows, and a sod roof kept trimmed by goats. The hotel overlooks the water in the tiny village of Saebo, lying along the salmon-rich Bondalselva River in the shadow of Skarasalen, an imposing peak whose near-vertical walls rise 5,059 feet from the fjord’s surface. Incorporating knotty pine, stone, stucco and other natural materials, Sagafjord's cozy interior is in harmony with wild nature outside. Rooms have water views and are furnished in serene natural colors. Beds have classic European duvets. Amenities include a writing desk, free Wi-Fi, flat screen cable TV, telephone, tea/coffee maker, electric kettle, and an en suite bathroom with glass shower, heated tile floor, toiletries and hair dryer. In the main lounge, warm up by the wood fireplace on leather couches accented with sheepskin throws. The dining room and bar have been updated with a warm, contemporary vibe featuring Scandinavian modern furnishings. Just outside the door, enjoy kayaking and hiking on the fjord, with views of the dramatic Sunnmore Alps in every direction.
