Rocktail Bay
Location
Maputaland, South Africa
Situated in a World Heritage Site within South Africa’s Maputaland Coastal Forest Reserve, Rocktail Bay offers the chance to experience a side of Southern Africa that most tourists miss - the unspoiled Indian Ocean coast and its incredible natural beauty. The beach here, rivaled by few on earth, is reason alone for a visit. Pristine and undeveloped (around the lodge there are some 20 miles of undisturbed Indian Ocean coastline) it was named as one of the 10 best lodges in the world by Outside Magazine. Guests are accommodated in 11 “tree-house” chalets. Each room has its own balcony, an ensuite bathroom and hot and cold running water with an additional outdoor shower in the forest. The main area of the lodge has an inviting lounge, pub and pool.
Activities: Boating, beach and forest walks, birding, excursions to a nearby hippo pool, snorkeling, diving, horseback riding and cultural excursions.
Special attraction: A World Heritage Site encompassing coastal and marine reserves located among one of the world’s most pristine beaches.
