Remota Patagonia Lodge
Location
Puerto Natales, Chile
Located about a mile outside Puerto Natales on the shore of Seno Ultima Esperanza Bay, this lodge evokes traditional Patagonian sheep-shearing sheds, blending into the environment and immersing guests in the landscape. Floor-to-ceiling windows throughout offer captivating views of mountains, fjords and glaciers. Designed by famed Chilean architect German del Sol, the low-profile structure consists of three U-shaped pavilions arranged around a central open courtyard.
The hotel incorporates local, sustainable materials like wood, asphalt and slate, with wild-grass-covered roofs. The minimalist interior features large concrete or wooden pillars and furniture made from native Lenga. Elongated corridors, gradual ramps and expansive views invite the outside in.
Spacious guest rooms have large windows that allow abundant natural light. One king or two queen beds come in crisp, cotton sheets and thick duvets. Furnishings made of cypress wood come from a nearby Chilean community. En suite bathrooms include a large bathtub, shower and complementary toiletries. Wi-Fi is available in guest rooms, though the signal may be intermittent at times.
The onsite restaurant’s local focus showcases seafood and exotic meats from the area like grilled grouper and guanaco carpaccio. All vegetables and produce are hand-picked and supplied by nearby farms and gardens. A breakfast buffet features savory and sweet options, and the menu offers a range of vegetarian choices. The full bar also offers a suite of Chilean wines.
