Natural Habitat's Safari America Mobile Camp
America's National Parks
Evoking the concept of a mobile African safari, our camp brings this classic outdoor experience to the American West. Secluded on protected lands adjacent to America's iconic national parks, our traditional canvas tents accommodate a small group of no more than 12 guests. An open-sided lounge tent provides a gathering space, with comfortable chairs for relaxing. A high-powered telescope is situated for shared use after dark—we set our camp in areas where you’ll find some of the darkest, starriest skies in the U.S.
While our accommodations are not luxurious, they offer full-service, classic tented camping at its finest. You’ll be able to stand up inside your tent, which has two double-door openings, one on either side. While there is no heat, air conditioning or fans in the tents, our high-altitude locations usually
The camp chef creates memorable meals accompanied by fine wines and served in our dining tent at a table dressed with tablecloths, cloth napkins, glass dinnerware and silverware. After dark, we are generally able to enjoy a crackling campfire under the stars, and guests will wake to a warming fire in the morning. Depending on weather conditions at any time, however, park officials can prohibit open fires if they are deemed unsafe, and we must abide by those regulations.
In keeping with the totally secluded nature of our accommodations, there is no cellular reception or electricity at camp, although there is a charging station available during the day for cameras, iPads and other small electronic devices. We encourage guests to embrace the chance to disconnect from the outside world and enjoy a quieter pace, serene setting and total immersion in nature. (A satellite phone is available for guides’ use in emergencies, however.)
Natural Habitat Adventures plans to further develop our Safari America concept throughout western North America. The camp images above are taken in several different national parks and reserves and are meant to provide a sense of the camp facilities and the types of off-the-grid settings we select (rather than denoting the exact locations used on this particular trip).
