Muchenje Safari Lodge
Location
Chobe National Park, Botswana
An optimal base for exploring Botswana's Chobe region, Muchenje Safari Lodge is situated high on an escarpment on the quieter western side of Chobe National Park. With outstanding views of the Chobe River and seasonal flood plains, it lies within the private community-owned Chobe Forest Reserve, just a short distance from Chobe National Park, renowned for its prolific wildlife and huge concentrations of game. With no fences between the reserve and the park boundary, animals roam freely, often in the vicinity of the lodge. An intimate, owner-run property, Muchenje provides a highly personalized experience of service and hospitality. A variety of safari activities include early morning game drives and guided bush walks, late afternoon game drives as the temperatures start dropping, and even night drives after dinner to see who is moving around the reserve once the sun has disappeared.
Eleven thatched private cottages, each beautifully appointed, have private verandas with views over the Chobe River and the animals that drink from it. All are en suite and offer the option of double accommodations that can be converted to two twin beds. Cottages have air conditioning and a ceiling fan, electronic safe, tea- and coffee-making facilities, mini bar and fridge, and hair dryers. The main lodge common areas include a large lounge, bar and dining area overlooking the Chobe River and waterhole on the lodge property. In addition to the primary communal dining area, guests may also dine beneath the lapa (pergola) by the pool for a more intimate experience, or opt for a bush braai (barbecue) dinner in the boma near the lodge. Extensive deck areas provide comfortable space to relax and survey the sweeping views, ideal at sunset or for stargazing around the fire pit. The swimming pool also offers views over the flood plain.
