Mihingo Lodge
Location
Lake Mburo National Park, Uganda
Mihingo Lodge is a peaceful retreat situated on a hilltop near Lake Mburo National Park, a premier wildlife-viewing area in southern Uganda that harbors a number of species found nowhere else in the country. Large walk-in canvas tents built on wooden platforms atop stilts are placed in varied settings to maximize privacy and views—some within forest, some on rocky outcrops and some with a lake view—all with supreme seclusion. The thatch-roofed tents provide spacious, comfortable accommodations and all are equipped with en suite facilities that have hot and cold running water, showers and flush toilets. Each luxury tent is set apart from the others, enabling guests to enjoy the natural surroundings in complete privacy.
The main lounge and dining area are located in a large thatched structure built of rocks, wood from dead weathered olive trees found on the land, and native grasses. Natural materials are accented with bright colors and fabrics. Below the dining area an infinity swimming pool stretches out from the rocks and seems to disappear into the vast landscape beyond. From the dining and pool area, guests enjoy west-facing views and stunning sunsets over Lake Mburo National Park as they watch for zebra and impala that come to the nearby waterhole to drink. Mihingo Lodge is a leader in environmentally smart design. Rainwater is captured and solar power harnessed to fuel lodge operations. The lodge is also dedicated to community improvement, hiring local people and funding a community development foundation that supports efforts to help local farmers live in harmony with native predators.
