Marataba Safari Lodge
Location
Marataba Private Reserve, South Africa
Marataba Safari Lodge enjoys an unparalleled setting within the Marataba Private Reserve, a less-discovered safari treasure lying within Marakele National Park. This stylish safari camp offers exclusive access to this private 57,000-acre preserve—an exceptionally scenic mosaic of plains, mountains and valleys that's home to predators, primates, abundant hoofed game and more than 400 bird species. The lodge features 15 safari tents constructed of draped khaki canvas and local stone. Each tent has double sinks and an egg-shaped bathtub and indoor shower, as well as heating and cooling for the varied seasons. The tents are perched along the winding river on either side of the main lodge, each with a deck overlooking the mountains, often with elephant or giraffe towering in the distance. The main lodge invites socializing and relaxing in spacious and beautiful lounges, and it also offers a small library, gift shop, formal dining room, and fireplaces to gather around on cool evenings. Expansive decks and a sprawling lawn look out toward the Waterberg massif, and meals are served al fresco as much as possible, to capitalize on the grand view. A central swimming pool is a welcome feature for midday relaxation.
