Just outside Bangor, The Lucerne Inn is set high atop a hill with 360-degree views of the surrounding forested countryside. With unpretentious New England charm, this boutique hotel offers 31 guestrooms in a renovated 200-year-old farmhouse. Its white colonial façade is adorned with black shutters and dormers, set against a large expanse of grassy lawn. While each cozy room has been individually decorated with antique furnishings and artwork, they have in common a host of amenities including air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, flatscreen cable TV, writing desk, coffeemaker, whirlpool tub and heated towel bars. Rooms have either one queen or two double beds. Most rooms have gas fireplaces, although they are not operational until temperatures drop in the fall. Many rooms overlook Phillips Lake, and all enjoy sweeping territorial views on nature. An executive chef directs meals in the dining room, inspired by international flavors and fresh seasonal ingredients. Rian’s Pub is an old-fashioned bar offering a relaxed, casual space for a local beer on draft. In summertime, enjoy the large outdoor swimming pool and expansive patios.
