Note: This hotel will be used on our 2022 itinerary.
In the village of Oye at the head of peaceful Norangsfjord we find one of the most distinctive small hotels in all of Europe. Since it opened in 1891, the Hotel Union Oye has been a favorite retreat for royalty, aristocrats, authors and adventurers over generations. Its 30 rooms are individually furnished with rich fabrics, carefully chosen antiques and unique memorabilia, and each is named after one of the hotel's many notable guests including Kaiser Wilhelm, King Oscar II, authors Karen Blixen and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, composer Edvard Grieg, playwright Henrik Ibsen, and explorer Roald Amundsen. Surrounded by lavish gardens, the hotel presents a charming wooden facade with a steep peaked roof, intricate painted trim and carved balconies. Dinner in the elegant dining room is a highlight, as the chef composes a three-course meal featuring local fresh fare of the season. The hotel also invites relaxing in the Sun Lounge or library, as you look out onto the gardens or gaze up at the waterfalls cascading from the steep mountainsides.
