Hotel Brosundet
Location
Alesund, Norway
This intimate, stylish boutique hotel is one of Alesund's most appealing accommodations. Located quayside, it offers a view on the maritime panorama of sailboats gliding through the fjord and fishing boats returning with the day's catch. Hotel Brosundet's design reflects its owners' passion for preserving Alesund's architectural heritage, including the authentic structure and character of the original warehouses that played a central role in the town's history as a thriving fishery. The Art Nouveau buildings that comprise the hotel were a former packhouse built in 1918, where dried and salted cod was prepared for export to Portugal and Brazil. Heavy beams support the interior, while the outer walls touch Brosundet harbor, and many rooms have water views. Yet while the 'bones' of the hotel are old, the decor is decidedly contemporary, exuding Scandinavian modern flair and a chic continental sensibility. In order to preserve the property's historic nature, each guest room is unique in size and dimensions, some with slanted ceilings beneath the eaves. All are furnished in a minimalist style and soothing neutral tones. Bathrooms feature heavy white ceramic fixtures, with plate-glass showers and some with a deep porcelain soaking tub. All rooms have complimentary Wi-Fi, TV, and coffee and tea. A small fitness area and sauna offer an opportunity to exercise and rejuvenate.
