Hoanib Valley Camp
Location
Sesfontein Community Conservancy, Kaokoland, Namibia
A stay at Hoanib Valley Camp offers an immersion in the rugged Kaokoland wilderness of northwest Namibia while supporting Nat Hab’s mission of conservation through exploration. The intimate camp was created as a joint venture between the Sesfontein Community Conservancy and the Giraffe Conservation Foundation, a partnership that ensures that both humans and wildlife benefit from our visit. The camp's six luxurious tents are tucked into a hidden enclave next to the vast Palmwag Concession, in view of the ephemeral Hoanib River. Furniture and decor in neutral desert tones are the handiwork of local carvers and artisans, crafted of local materials and reflecting the mountains, dunes and desert environs. Sip sundowners from your tent's private veranda made of a wood, bamboo and 70% recycled-material composite, or enjoy a drink in the airy main lounge before dinner under the stars. The entire camp is solar-powered, ensuring a presence that's light on the land and as quiet as the desert night. Days are spent tracking Namibia’s largest population of free-ranging black rhino, as well as desert-adapted elephant, giraffe, zebra, klipspringer, kudu, oryx, mountain zebra and lion. Learn about ground-breaking giraffe research conducted in the area, and meet the local Herero people, who will share their traditions with you and explain how they subsist in such a harsh climate.
