Great Ocean Ecolodge
Location
Cape Otway, Australia
Wild kangaroos graze outside your bedroom window at this ecolodge located on the grounds of the nonprofit Conservation Ecology Center, adjacent to Great Otway National Park. Close to the coast and its secluded beaches, the lodge is surrounded by pristine bush and lush rain forest. The retreat is owned and operated by a passionate zoologist and natural resource manager who grew up in the bush. All profits from the accommodations are reinvested into wildlife conservation, an on-site research room and the solar-powered lodge itself. Showcasing a commitment to sustainable living, the building utilizes a passive design, locally sourced antique furniture, filtered rainwater, solar-heated water, organic and biodegradable spa and cleaning products, and conscious waste management techniques. Rooms feature expansive views, private en suite bathrooms, crisp linens and plush towels. Enjoy afternoon tea with cakes fresh from the oven, garden to table dinners, and leisurely breakfasts with homemade muesli, breads and preserves.
