Country Club Lima Hotel
Location
Lima, Peru
Built in 1927 and declared a Peruvian Cultural Monument, the Country Club Lima Hotel reflects architectural charm, Peru’s history and luxurious comfort. The building showcases the Spanish colonial style that was popular among Lima’s elite in the early 20th century, including a lobby with soaring ceilings, marble floors, stained glass windows, gold chandeliers, antiques and fresh flowers. It’s a stately standout in Lima’s upscale San Isidro neighborhood, having hosted royalty like the Duke of Windsor Edward VIII, literary luminaries including Hemingway and Faulkner, and movie stars like Ava Gardner and John Wayne. Each individual room reflects a tasteful mix of antiques and modern furnishings, plus large-scale murals by Peruvian artist Gihan Tubbeh using monochromatic photographs of looms and polleras (vibrant hand-woven skirts traditionally worn in the Andes) enhanced by pops of color. En suite rooms include plush bedding and full marble bathrooms. Inside the hotel, Perroquet`s, with a menu featuring authentic Peruvian food, is a four-time winner of the Summum Award for Lima’s best restaurant. In addition, the wood-paneled English Bar is famous for its pisco sours, and there’s a full-service spa, gym and outdoor pool.
