Baker's Lodge
Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda
Baker's Lodge, opened in 2015, features eight safari-style cottages on raised platforms perched along the south bank of the Nile River, which transects Murchison Falls National Park. This intimate, traditionally styled lodge sits within a large private area of beautifully trimmed lawns, large shady trees and wetland areas hosting abundant birdlife along the water’s edge. The views onto the river are magnificent, overlooking islands where egrets nest, elephants bathing, and pods of hippos regularly on view. Each cottage offers rustic, airy accommodations beneath a thatched roof, with solid white walls and a canvas and mesh front that unzips and rolls back to reveal an unobstructed view of the river and wildlife beyond. Open-plan, en suite bathrooms have solar hot-water showers tiled with polished stones, double sinks beneath an elongated mirror, and a flushing toilet. The main lodge, with central lounge, bar, dining area and swimming pool, is set on a raised wooden deck, covered by a thatched roof and open on all sides with 180-degree views of the river and surrounding environs. Wi-Fi is available.
The lodge's direct river access ensures that boat excursions along the Nile are a definite highlight of a stay here, along with visits to Murchison Falls and scenic sunset or sunrise cruises. For more traditional game viewing, 4×4 safari vehicles and guides are available for excursions through the national park as well as to nearby Budongo Forest where forest walks and chimpanzee tracking is available. Special bush breakfasts and dinners are an additional treat available for guests. Visitors may also enjoy cultural encounters on walks to a local village.
