Jon Long
Jonathan's passion for photography blossomed in a traditional darkroom and has evolved with modern digital techniques. Starting his professional journey at his local newspaper, Jonathan captured numerous front-page images as a young photographer. At university, he served as Zion National Park’s official photographer, enriching their library with hundreds of images, many still on display at visitor centers.
After graduate school, Jonathan worked in Jackson, Wyoming, as a digital assistant to the famed wildlife photographer Thomas Mangelsen. This role took him on international photography expeditions and involved producing fine art photo books and prints. He also participated in the iLCP's Rapid Assessment Visual Expedition to the El Triunfo Biosphere Reserve.
Jonathan brings a wealth of experience in fine art photography, education and guiding expertise to Nat Hab. His more than ten years of university-level teaching and an impressive international exhibition record have seen him work and exhibit with top photographers. His expertise extends to guiding on numerous rivers and across many national parks nationwide. As a Nat Hab Expedition Leader starting in 2021, Jonathan guides wildlife safaris in Yellowstone and Grand Teton national parks.
An advocate for conservation through his art, Jonathan's photographs have been exhibited with other environmental movement leaders. He has contributed images to various environmental groups, served on the board for Idaho Rivers United and continues to use his photography to champion the protection of pristine environments.
Now residing in Bozeman, Montana, Jonathan spends his time off fly fishing, taking river walks, photographing waterfalls, backpacking and enjoying time with Sadie, his golden retriever. He finds peace paddling the wild rivers with Sadie by his side, cultivating his perennial garden and tending to his greenhouse tomatoes.
