Creatures Great and Small: India's Diverse Wildlife
From Himalayan heights and swampy lowlands to scrub jungle, desert and floodplains, India’s terrain spans the gamut. India is one of the 17 mega-diverse countries on the planet, meaning that it exhibits a high degree of endemic species and is home to a large percentage of species across the world. Naturalist guide Conan Dumenil focuses on some of India's impressive and lesser-known wildlife, including the Asiatic lion, clouded leopard, caracal, dhole (wild dog), dolphins, its famous snakes, and more! Learn how key species have evolved to thrive across a variety of habitats while others have taken on highly specialized roles in very specific places. We’ll also examine the cultural significance of several species that have had a history of human protection or persecution, juxtaposing those behaviors with conservation agendas today. While wildlife watching in India can be challenging due to the nature of the terrain and more elusive animals, a safari here is very rewarding. You’ll leave today’s webinar knowing where the best places are to spot India’s legendary wildlife—not to mention a fuller appreciation of the nature- and culture-rich mosaic that is India.
