Nick Baker
Growing up in the UK, Nick developed a lifelong love of the natural world. His naturalist background is extensive: his diverse career includes roles as a wildlife guide, educator, ecological consultant, broadcaster, field researcher and author of 13 books. His work in the fields of butterfly and bird ecology has helped conserve rare species like the high brown fritillary and ring ouzel. Nick's travels span over three decades, and he now resides in the Scottish Highlands. An Expedition Leader since 2022, he relishes sharing his corner of the world with Nat Hab travelers.
Nick is affiliated with several prestigious organizations, being a fellow of the Royal Entomological Society, the Royal Canadian Geographical Society and the British Naturalists' Association. Moreover, he is Vice President of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds.
Nick's personal 'life mission' focuses on advocating for what he terms 'evolutionary underdogs,' with special expertise in invertebrates, amphibians and reptiles. For him, the boundaries between hobby and career blur, as natural history is his primary passion. He harbors a great love for bicycles and seizes every opportunity to ride. At home, Nick shares his space with a variety of creatures, including snakes, isopods, tarantulas, scorpions, shrimp and a budgie. Alongside this menagerie, he lives with his wife and their teenage daughter.
