Quality vehicles are an important component of your safari experience. The vehicles provided are designed especially for adventures in Southern Africa, with two goals in mind: comfort during overland drives on sometimes-rough roads, and excellent wildlife viewing opportunities. The camps you visit will use several different sizes of Toyota Land Cruisers and Land Rovers. Vehicles typically have 10 cushioned passenger seats: one in front next to the driver followed by three rows of three seats each, though capacity is typically limited to six to nine travelers depending on each camp. Most camps use open-sided vehicles, either with or without a canopy overhead, and each row is raised slightly higher than the one in front of it, allowing for unobstructed views of scenery and wildlife. All vehicles have 4-wheel-drive and are fitted with high-quality imported tires to enable us to press on through rough spots. As is the case with all of our vehicles, these safari trucks are enhanced with specialized suspensions to ensure the most comfortable ride possible in the wilds of Africa.

Airport transfers on Day 1 and the final day in Windhoek, internal scheduled flights and transfers as noted, accommodations, meals and drinks as specified in your confirmed proposal (included at most safari camps), breakfast in city hotels, scheduled daily wildlife drives and activities as described in the itinerary, services of local camp guides and staff at each stop, and all park, camping and conservation area fees and taxes.

Travel to and from start and end point of trip, any meals and drinks not specified in your confirmed proposal, services of a Nat Hab Expedition Leader (this can be booked upon request at an additional cost), private vehicles if required for children ages six to 12, gratuities, passport and visa fees, optional activities, items of a personal nature (phone calls, souvenirs, etc.), airline baggage fees, airport and departure taxes, any increase in park, camping or conservancy fees, optional travel insurance, and required medical evacuation insurance.

Easy to Moderate
During your safari the 4x4 vehicles frequently offer a bumpy ride over rugged terrain. Wildlife drives often involve long hours of sitting and sometimes bouncing around. While we don't consider this strenuous, it can be uncomfortable and pose a particular type of physical demand on the body. All travelers must be able to climb into and out of raised 4x4 safari trucks. Travelers must also be able to walk to and from the vehicle and camp accommodations, which sometimes involves walking over uneven ground (including sand) or on boardwalks. Days spent on safari can be long, as mornings typically start before daybreak and evening meals are served after sundown. Safari accommodations and vehicles are not climate controlled and, depending on the seasonality, temperatures can range from quite cold to extremely hot, so it is crucial that travelers come prepared.

Additionally, while any walks are considered optional, you will get the most out of your safari experience if you can walk a mile or two over uneven ground and rough or steep terrain without assistance. Climbing the sand dunes of Sossusvlei and walking over rocky terrain in search of rhinos or desert-adapted elephants constitute the most strenuous activities on this safari, but other more moderate walks without incline are also offered, which still allow for enjoyment of the dunes (i.e., simply walking through Dead Vlei with a view up to the dunes). An important aspect of Namibia is its dry and sandy/dusty conditions, as this is truly a desert environment. Travelers are advised to bring adequate eye and head protection, and a bandana can come in handy to keep sand off the face in windy conditions. We recommend that all travelers have an adventurous spirit, as you will often enjoy the most exhilarating wildlife and nature experiences.

For this custom extension, we will check availability at each camp for your chosen dates. While you will be traveling independently, you may accompany other guests from each camp as well as share a naturalist guide on wildlife drives, walks and other activities. The minimum age for accommodation is six years, while the minimum age for scheduled wildlife drives is six in some camps and 13 in others, and the minimum age for walks and sleepouts is 13 years throughout. A private vehicle is required at some camps for children ages six to 12 to participate in wildlife drives. Meals in camp are often, though not always, served family-style, where all guests sit at one large table and dine together, while private meals can also be requested. Our recommended accommodations are located in areas that limit the number of people while showcasing incredible natural beauty and wildlife.
