On January 27th, scientists captured, possibly for the first time ever, a video of a rare and elusive African golden cat hunting in the daylight. The short video below, shot using a hidden camera trap, shows the cat charging and nabbing an unsuspecting red colobus monkey in Uganda’s Kibale Forest National Park. It happens so quickly, you barely see the cat. The monkeys are quietly sitting on a termite mound, and literally a second later the cat disappears into the trees with its prey.
The African golden cat is extremely shy and is rarely photographed by humans. It inhabitants rain forests across West and Central Africa and is about twice the size of a house cat.
